For my non-knitting friends and maybe some of my knitting friends a FO is a finished object and some knitters call a half finished object a HO (usually used in reference to the completion of sock 1 of a pair). The Groovy Fish Socks are now just (k)nits bound off. Once I got my gauge right these socks were a delightful knit.2013-10-31 14.27.06 I loved the pattern stitch and the Fish Lips Kiss Heel treatment. The heel is easy to remember and can be used for toe up as well as cuff down socks and looks like the face we make when we imitate a fish by sucking in our cheeks and puckering lips. I loved the yarn too. The yarn is Desert Vista Dyeworks Viso in Zombody Says Boo! colorway. Susan Hayes does a great job of dyeing and her base stock is soft and wonderful to knit (good thing because I’ve good lots of DVD in my sock yarn collection and still buying it). I used US size 1 needles.

I wound Fibernymph Dyeworks Bounce base in The Elves were in the Eggnog for my first pair of Christmas socks. 2013-11-01 17.49.10Lisa also dyes beautifully and her base stock is a joy to knit. So I got out my US size 0 needles and cast on a pair of Afterthought Heel socks. This will be my work-in-public and late night project.

My other just (k)nits in progress is a Christmas stocking kit from Elegant Heirlooms. These kits are economical and have everything you need except the needles and maybe a bit of glue. I’ve made five of these and have had plenty of yarn. Check the website out and if you want a kit you can order from Gate City Yarns. This one is called North Pole Rockers.2013-11-01 17.47.51 The recipient is a cheerleader and daughter of a co-worker. I’ve finished the intarsia part. I hope to finish the knitting tomorrow. I have another to make and will do the assembly for both at the same time. I’ll probably weave ends before casting on the second.

So the title also refers to the commencing of the Christmas knits.

I also did a stash dive and fished out the GnomeAcres Squishy Gnome in Witches Brew to make Maggie the Mama Owl. 2013-11-01 17.48.46The head is Cascade 220. I’m using US size 5 needles. This is a just (k)nit for others. It’s for a friend that I think needs a hug. I hope to finish it tomorrow. Once Maggie’s done, I’ll be working through the Rebecca Danger and Topsy Turvy books (hopefully making some Christmas things).

Till next time, no frogs, no tinks, just knits.
