I love the movie Dr Seuss’ The Lorax. I rented it and watched it again Sunday night and will do so again this afternoon. I love the quote at the end.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”–Dr Seuss

I also like the Once-ler’s statement “There’s nothing unmanly about knitting. No, sir!”

Speaking of knitting, George the Giant Squid is off the needles. All his pieces parts are finished but I need to add stuffing and eyes and knit his closure. Since I’ve got another monster to knit in the next week or so, I decided to “finish” both at the same time.George is knit from Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted in Turtle Rodeo on size US 5 needles. The arms and tentacles were a bit fiddly but I worked a few a day so I didn’t get bogged down.

I worked a bit more on the Rosy Cardigan. I’ve divided for the sleeves and started on the body. It may be a bit big for three-month old but it is definitely infant size. This is the work-in-public project at the moment.

I frogged the Marin. I felt that the texture of the scarf and the texture of the yarn were at odds so to speak. In other words, I didn’t like the way it looked. So I cast on Simply Riveting which is a much better choice. I’m using size US 8 needles and using my handspun from the fleece of Cocoa the Corriedale who was raised at Rising Meadow Farm. I have to say quite shamelessly that I’m proud of this. My handspun has much improved since my first handspun piece several years ago. Also, the fabric is much better with the use of larger needle and a simpler pattern. I’ve queued the Marin again with some Wollmeise which will be a better choice for it.The Wollmeise will show off the texture of this piece.

I’ve fallen victim to a couple of Halloween updates Unwind Yarns Transylvania Tramp which will be Hyla Brook and Fibernymph Dyeworks Elphaba’s Corset which will be Moulin Rouge. Both of these are in sparkly yarn. I’m also coveting some lace weight sparkly yarn from GnomeAcres in Christmas colors and am hoping not to fall down there. I can’t possibly knit another holiday sweater until 2013 so it can wait. Maybe I’ll do socks instead.

Till next time, no frogs, no tinks, just knits.
