Are you going to knit while you eat!?

Yesterday I ran into friends at the cafe at lunch time. They came in just as I was getting my work-in-public project out of its bag. One of them asked in a surprised tone, “are you going to knit while you eat?” My answer was no, but I do knit while I’m waiting. I don’t do “wait” well. I hate to wait. And the wait hate must be a family trait because I’m pretty sure my brother doesn’t like to wait and my mom didn’t like to wait either. I consider waiting a waste of time so knitting while I’m waiting makes the time productive and makes the wait seem shorter. I’ve been doing a lot of waiting the last couple of days. I waited for food in restaurants and waited at the hair salon today. I also worked on my work-in-public project during my pedicure. The work-in-public project is the Ann Norling Kid’s Top-down Sweater in Jarbo Raggi. I’m using US 7 needles. This is a shop sample so I didn’t swatch and am using the size 1 pattern with a gauge of 4.5 stitches per inch. My gauge is probably closer to 4 stitches per inch but it’s okay since size isn’t important.

I need to add here that I do eat while I knit. Eat here means snack. I eat knitting friendly snacks while I knit at home. M & M’s don’t melt on your knitting either. I also sleep while I knit. That’s called sleep-knitting around here. I have a tendency to doze off while I’m knitting sometimes. I’ve dropped needles while napping and sleep-knitting can cause visits to the frog pond. So I try to stay awake long enough to get to stopping spot then put my project away. Sleep-knitting is why I have no picture of the Eyelet Cardi today. I spent a lot of time yesterday sleep-knitting so the piece looks about like the last picture. Hopefully I’ll be able to stay awake this evening and make some progress.

Till next time, no frogs, no tinks, just knits.
